WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO VOTE EARLY BY MAIL OR DURING ADVANCE VOTING WEEK!

Voters wanting to cast an absentee vote will have to submit their request in writing. This includes voters who have requested that ballots for all elections be automatically mailed to them as such requests are not kept on file from year to year. House Bill 244 has caused some changes in the way absentee voting is conducted. For example, when someone requests an absentee ballot by mail, they do not have to provide a reason, but if someone comes in the registrar's office to cast an absentee ballot, (excluding advance voting week), they have to provide a reason and they have to show an approved form of photo I.D. If a voter does not have a form of photo I.D, they may request a voter photo I.D. at the registrars' office.

HERE ARE SOME THINGS EVERY VOTER NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT ABSENTEE VOTING:

If you would like to vote absentee by mail, send a written request stating the election for which you would like an absentee ballot, your name as registered, your residential address, the address that you would like the absentee ballot to be mailed to, your date of birth, and your signature.

Applications and requests for absentee ballots BY MAIL will be accepted until FRIDAY, JULY 11, 2008.
ABSENTEE BALLOTS CANNOT BE MAILED THE DAY BEFORE AN ELECTION so please send your request as soon as possible to ensure that it reaches election staff in time to be processed.

If you vote absentee by mail for any reason other than being DISABLED, another person cannot deliver your ballot to our office. You must either mail it back to us in time to reach our office by the close of the polls on election day or deliver the ballot yourself the day before the election. According to Georgia law, the registrars' office cannot accept a ballot that has been delivered personally to our office on the day of the election. If your ballot will be delivered personally, or in the case of someone delivering an absentee ballot for a disabled voter, please make sure that it is delivered no later than the close of the polls on election day which is 7:00 PM.
An absentee ballot will not be issued the day before the Election, this includes absentee voting in the office on the touch screen voting units.

You do not have to provide a reason if you request an absentee ballot by mail.

If you have questions about absentee voting, please call us at 225-4101.
